History

F. Wayne McLeskey Jr., was born in Norfolk, Virginia, in 1923, and demonstrated an entrepreneurial spirit at a young age, selling Liberty Magazine on the corner of 34th Street and Colley Avenue. Wayne was an avid pilot throughout his life and first learned to fly at age 14, piloting a Stearman as depicted in the McLeskey Family Foundation logo.

Wayne founded McLeskey, a real estate development company in the 1950’s, and through a disciplined approach established McLeskey as one of Hampton Roads’ premier real estate companies. McLeskey’s diversified holdings include commercial properties, single-family homes, multi-family rental property, a mobile home community, marinas, charter boats, aircraft, and undeveloped land.

Wayne McLeskey supported many community and civic organizations financially and through serving on numerous boards. He was instrumental in developing the sport of off-shore billfishing in the City of Virginia Beach and the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Wayne was also a catalyst for creating one of Virginia Beach’s premier assets, the Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center.
